
Located within Onondaga County is the Town of Clay, NY. The 2000 census reported that the town had a total population of 58,805, which qualifies Clay as the largest suburb in Syracuse. Named after statesman Henry Clay, the Town of Clay is just northwest of Syracuse.
Clay is also the largest town in its county and includes a portion of the Village of North Syracuse. Along NY-31 lies the Great Northern Mall, a major retail hub in Syracuse. Also, Clay was once part of the US Military Tract.
Settled in the year 1791, the town of Clay was previously known as West Cicero, NY. Clay was truly founded as a town in the year 1827.
