Located in the county of Rensselaer is the town of East Greenbush. At the 2000 census, the population was 15,560.
“Greenbush” originates from the Dutch words “Greenen Bosch,” which stands for the pine woods which cover the land. Around 1930, settlers made their way to East Greenbush under Patroon Kiliaen van Rensselaer. Founded as the town of Clinton in 1855, East Greenbush took its name just three years later.
Major highways run directly through this vastly suburban area for convenient living outside the city.
Prior to the creation of Rensselaer County, East Greenbush was formed as part of the Manor of Rensselaerswyck.
