The village of Fayetteville is located in Onondaga County, New York. At the 2000 U.S. Census, the village of Fayetteville had a population of 4,190.

The village got its name from a national hero of both France and the United States named Marquis de Lafayette.

The village is considered a part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fayetteville is a suburb located in the Town of Manlius, and lies east of the City of Syracuse.

The first settlers arrived in 1792 and Fayetteville has been the center of trade and business ever since. The village’s first post office was established in 1818 and the incorporation of the village took place in 1844.

Households in the Fayetteville area are known to be highly educated and are considered quite wealthy in comparison to other areas of Onondaga County.
