The town of Wilton is located northeast of Saratoga Springs in Saratoga County, New York. As of the 2000 census the estimated population was 12,511.
Once referred to as “Palmertown,” Wilton was first settled around the year 1764. It was created from the Town of Northumberland in 1818.
Mostly north of Wilton is a place known as Mount McGregor, which holds The Grant Cottage State Historic Site.
This is the highest peak of the Palmertown Range. In 1885 Ulysses S. Grant passed away of cancer at Mount McGregor, shortly after completing his memoirs.
“The Saratoga,” a narrow gauge railway, was built in 1882 and passed through the town of Wilton.
