So it turns out Utica didn't just earn a spot on Zillow.com's list of the best places to buy a home this year -- it topped it.
The real estate website presented its list of the top 10 places to buy a home as part of a segment for "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, and Utica was ranked #1 in the nation.
A Zillow spokeswoman told GMA's George Stephanopoulos that Utica was picked based on its extremely low foreclosure rate (less than one-tenth of one percent), it's affordable housing costs (median home price: $104,000), and the fact that home prices here are up 5 percent year-to-year while prices are falling nationwide.
Upstate New York did well on the list in general -- with Rochester coming in at #3 (homes sales there typically result in net gains) and Albany snagging spot #6 (stable home values). [article from Utica OD - Jan 2011
