When buying a new home a question often arises as to what is covered under a warranty when buying new. New York State law requires the buyer have certain warranties.
- One year's protection against faulty workmanship and defective materials
- Two year's protection against defective installation of the plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling and ventilation systems
- Six year's protection against structural defects.
Some builders in the area have an insurance backed warranty program. These programs may go above and beyond the New York State Warranty. Residential Warranty Company is one and America's Choice 2-10 Warranty is another. Your builder will provide you with a copy of whatever warranty they are using when you purchase and build a new home.
