The five senses

If you're ready to sell your home, do this 5 senses test.

A clean home is a must.  Do the dust test.  Swipe your finger along surfaces and see if it comes back clean.  Also, don't leave out anything that is valuable to you.

Look around your house.  Do you see clutter? The floors should be completely clear of distracting items.  Remember people will be checking every nook and cranny of your home so don't hide things in a closet or under a bed.

The most important is the smell.  A smelly home will turn off people immediately.  Check litter boxes, diaper pails, dirty laundry.  If you have carpets, have them cleaned.

If you have the time, try leaving a little snack.  Leaving some freshly baked cookies will help people think of you in a nice way and maybe take a longer look at your house.

Don't stay in the house when you have a showing.  People might be afraid to ask questions or feel more uncomfortable about really looking when the owner is present.  Find something to do. If you stay home with children, it might be noisy and distracting to visitors.
