Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Joseph P. Dragone was notified by Newsweek magazine that the Ballston Spa High School will be included on the list of America's best high schools as published annually by the magazine. The district is being recognized for the first time and qualified for the special honor as a culmination of increased Advanced Placement assessment scores, participation in courses and on the examinations. Since 2007, student participation in Advanced Placement examinations in the district has grown by ~85%.
The author of the list for Newsweek Magazine, Jay Matthews, indicated that he was "delighted to add a school that will be new to the list". He continued, "the district is obviously doing great things in the high school and congratulations to all you are doing to help your kids". Approximately 1,600 (or 6%) of public high schools in the United States qualify for recognition on the list annually. It is also anticipated that the district's index will be 1.23 when the final ratings are released the end of July.
Dr. Dragone stated that "we are thrilled to receive this recognition as one indicator of the work we are doing to support student achievement. The strength of the student transcript is a critical piece of the college admissions process. We will continue to develop and provide the strongest academic opportunities for our students as we move forward with district initiatives". The Instructional staff, district leadership and Board of Education all are to be commended for their focus on excellence in the classroom. The district's goals and priorities will continue to focus on academic achievement and building the academic programs necessary to prepare students for 21st century learning and for their future in the workplace.
Congratulations to the Ballston Spa School District on this very special achievement. The above article and additional information on the Ballston Spa School District can be found at www.bscsd.org.
