Have you looked at your household appliances recently and thought to yourself "I'd love to replace those..." Well, you won't have to wait too long to receive the appliance equivalent of "cash for clunkers" - this might be known as "Dollars for Dishwashers"!
New York residents will begin to receive stimulus funded rebates for various energy efficient appliances for purchases starting on February 12, 2010 and ending on February 21, 2010. The appliances must be for personal use. Consumers must attest in writing the appliances they are purchasing are replacing existing appliances.
New York State officials have allocated $16.8 million in stimulus funds for those of us who replace old appliances with Energy Star-rated refrigerators, washing machines, freezers and dishwashers.
Here are the particular details on the rebates:
- $75.00 for a washing machine ($100.00 for recycling the old one)
- $75.00 for a refrigerator ($105.00 with documented recycling of the old one)
- $50.00 for a freezer ($75.00 with recycling of the old one)
Rebates for dishwashers are only available if the consumer also purchases two other appliances. All three appliances must meet standards set by the Consortium of Energy Efficiency, which are higher than Energy Star standards. If the three CEE-Level appliances are purchased (including the dishwasher) the consumer will be eligible for a $500.00 rebate (with $550 for recycling). The program is being administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
