The Plymouth Fire Department is an important asset to our city. They keep us safe as first responders to any emergency call. Since firefighters are so important to the preservation of our community, you may be wondering how you can support them. In this blog, I’m going to talk about two events going on in September and October that will help you give back to the ones that keep us safe.
Fire Department 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run
Our tax dollars pay for many civic departments, such as the fire department. However, our tax dollars don’t cover volunteer firefighters. To raise money to offer financial protection, such as insurance, for volunteer firefighters, the Plymouth fire department hosts a 5K as an annual fund raising event. These funds are used to financially protect volunteer firefighters should they suffer a misfortune due to the result of fighting a fire. Below are the details for the 5K:
Date: 9/28/2013 at 9am
Race day check in: 7:30am
Location: Fire Station II
12000 Old Rockford Road
Plymouth, MN 55441
Each runner will get a long sleeved t-shirt and will be helping volunteer firefighters by donating to the Plymouth Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association. Following the 9:30am race, at 10am there will be a fun run for the kids. They can choose to either run a full or a half-mile.
Fire Department Open House
If you’re looking for a great way to spend a Saturday with the kids this fall and see where your 5K donations are being put to use, you can attend the fire department open house on October 12th from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. There is no cost for this event, so head down to Fire Station III at 3300 Dunkirk Lane N. in Plymouth and watch your kids marvel at the big red trucks our firefighters use to save lives.
