Visiting Catskill Park in New York - CB Prime Properties

Few places in New York offer a chance to get off the beaten path and reconnect with nature quite like the Catskills. Established in 1885, Catskill Park encompasses an incredible 700,000 acres of land, much of it completely open and free for the public to use.

Catskill Park represents a hub for hiking, camping, fishing, birdwatching, and outdoor pursuits of all kinds. Be sure to check out some of our real estate agents' favorite Catskills destinations as you're getting acquainted with the area!

  • Ashokan Rail Trail - 1285 NY-28, West Hurley, NY 12491
If you're looking for great trails, you've come to the right place. And while the Ashokan Rail Trail is far from the most challenging trek in the Catskills, it is one of the region's most accessible trails and a great starting point for newcomers. The Ashokan Rail Trail stretches just over 11 miles, following the course of a former railroad line along the shore of Ashokan Reservoir. The trail is open to hiking, mountain biking, dog walking, and horseback riding, and provides stunning views of the mountains.

  • Woodstock Farm Festival - 20 Mountainview Ave., Woodstock, NY 12498
One of the most charming villages in the Catskills, Woodstock is, of course, best known for its famous music festival. It's still a hub for live music, but these days it's a different festival that draws people to Woodstock: the Woodstock Farm Festival. Held every Wednesday from May to October, it's one of the leading farm markets in the region, with dozens of vendors offering everything from produce and baked goods to preserves and handmade crafts. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, there's usually some great live music at the festival too! Check it out every week near these Woodstock homes for sale.

  • North-South Lake Campground - 874 N Lake Rd., Haines Falls, NY 12436
There are almost too many great campgrounds in the Catskills to count, but the North-South Lake Campground is one of the most popular. It's centrally located, providing easy access to some of the mountains' best outdoor attractions. Kaaterskill Falls, the tallest waterfall in New York State, is just outside the campgrounds, and nearby trailheads lead to iconic landmarks like Artist's Rock, Sunset Rock, and Newman's Ledge. The campground itself overlooks a beautiful lake for swimming, fishing, and canoeing. More than 200 shady, secluded sites for tents and RVs are available.

  • A Day Away Kayaking - 944 NY-213, Kingston, NY 12401
Kingston is, technically, a little outside the boundaries of Catskill Park, but this lovely city on the banks of the mighty Hudson River offers a great view of the mountains and some of the best paddling opportunities in the region. Head over to A Day Away Kayak Rentals to rent a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard for your day of exploration. A Day Away Kayak Rentals overlooks Rondout Creek, a beautiful stream the flows into the Hudson not far from these Kingston homes for sale.

  • Junction Pool - County Road 17, Roscoe, NY 12776
The Catskills have long been held up as the birthplace of North American Fly fishing. There are a lot of truly spectacular fishing destinations here, but few better than the iconic Junction Pool. Located at the confluence of the Willowemoc and Beaverkill Rivers, it's one of the most consistently productive trout fishing spots around, making it a prime destination for novice and experienced fly anglers alike. The pool is easily accessible in Roscoe (nicknamed "Trout Town USA") and just footsteps away from many Roscoe homes for sale
