Capital Region Book Shops - CB Prime Properties

Eager to settle down with a new read? You're in luck. May is Get Caught Reading Month, an occasion that asks participants to make a point of reading openly. Its goal is to encourage everyone to embrace the joy of literature.

Some of our real estate agents are true bookworms who are often on the hunt for a new read during their time in the Capital Region. Check out some of their favorite bookstores in the area to find yourself a new book this month.

  1. Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza - 1475 Western Avenue, Albany, NY 12203
The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza is one of the most popular bookstores near Albany homes for sale. The shop regularly hosts book fairs and in-depth discussions with authors, giving people many ways to explore and form deep connections to literature. For lovers of the classics, it also serves as a regular meeting place for one of the New York chapters of the Jane Austen Society of North America.

The Book House even provides shoppers with a special incentive to shop with them: the Bookaholics Bonus Card. This card offers shoppers the chance to earn $15 in store credit if they purchase at least $150 in books over the two years following their first purchase.

  2. Market Block Books - 290 River Street, Troy, NY 12180
Run by the same people behind the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, Market Block Books has served the book-loving community around Troy homes for sale for nearly 20 years. Purchases at this shop are also eligible for the Bookaholics Bonus Card program, giving you another opportunity to earn some store credit through frequent purchases.

Market Block Books also participates in Troy Night Out on the last Friday of every month alongside the rest of the business community in downtown Troy. During this time, businesses set up shop on tables and stalls along the streets to encourage residents to explore their wares. This lively event is the perfect excuse to "get caught" shopping for your new books this month.

  3. I Love Books - 380 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054
I Love Books fittingly developed from its owners' lifelong dreams of a small bookstore to call their own. This shop near our Delmar homes for sale stocks a wide variety of new books, including many works from local authors that would be difficult to find in larger stores. Many book signings and poetry readings take place on the premises.

In addition to books, the store also sells a wide selection of stationery, stuffed animals, and other gift items. You might enjoy picking up some candy or a cuddly blanket to enhance your reading experience this month.

  4. The Open Door - 128 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY 12305
The Open Door has been operating continuously near Schenectady homes for sale for more than 50 years. Once a much smaller shop, the store now carries over 10,000 titles from both obscure and well-known writers.

Its age and venerated reputation have given The Open Door some prestige in the neighborhood. The store frequently hosts book signings featuring best-selling authors like Gregory Maguire and Neil Gaiman. They also make a point of giving back to the local community. They recently partnered with the Reading is Fun program, a local initiative to help Schenectady's elementary school students cultivate a life-long love of reading.

  5. Braveheart Books - 874 State Route 43, Stephentown Center, NY 12169
Braveheart Books is a small used bookstore located near Stephentown homes for sale. The shop is run by the Hendry family, a line of proud Scots eager to share their heritage with their fellow New Yorkers. They stock books in all genres but take special joy in curating their selection of fiction and non-fiction books related to Scotland.

This is a great place to find any rare or out-of-print titles you're curious about. The store's selection is always changing and is significantly different from what you'll find in typical bookstores. Remember to save a few minutes to get acquainted with Orson, the bookstore's official cat, before you leave!

Whether you're a devoted bookworm just trying to get back into the habit, the Capital Region's many bookstores will never let you down. Neither will our realtors. Contact us today to learn more about the properties we have available in this area and make this busy community your home.
