Nature Photography Destinations - Adirondacks Regions - CB Prime Properties

The Adirondacks have long been known for their distinctively gorgeous natural scenery—why not capture some of it in photographs for National Nature Photography Day? Many aspiring shutterbugs enjoy exploring this region to find the best spots to snap a shot. Some of our real estate agents are also photography enthusiasts who have spent a lot of time in the area. Here are some of their top picks for nature photography spots in this beautiful part of New York.

  • Pilot Knob Trail Head - 1195 Pilot Knob Road, Queensbury, NY
The Pilot Knob trailhead is part of the short but incredibly scenic trail at the Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob. At just 3.8 miles of easy-to-moderate terrain, this trail near our Queensbury homes for sale is perfect for beginner-level hikers. Along the way, you'll find plenty of breathtaking photo subjects, including a majestic waterfall at the trail's mid-point.

When you reach the top, you'll discover a small gazebo that offers a stunning view of Lake St. George and the surrounding peaks. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear if you're heading out after rainy weather—the route can get a bit muddy at these times, but it's still an easy walk with the right equipment.

  • Gore Mountain - 793 Peaceful Valley Road, North Creek, NY 12853
Known for its superb winter ski hills, Gore Mountain is also an excellent spot to snap some shots during the summer months. Located near our North Creek homes for sale, its sprawling 14 miles of trails offer everything from casual strolls to intense hikes. This gives you plenty of space to explore in search of the perfect photo opportunity.

If you want to get a different vantage point, you can hop onto one of the scenic skyrides offered on the mountain's ski lift lines. This is an easy way to get some breathtaking panoramic shots you could never get any other way.

  • Siamese Ponds Wilderness - Hwy 8, North Creek, NY 12853
If you're eager to photograph some strikingly unique images, Siamese Ponds Wilderness is well worth a visit. This 114,000-acre park is full of incredible waterside and mountain scenery just begging to be captured on camera. The space is teeming with wildlife, including deer, beavers, and river otters. If you're a fan of birds, you can expect to find wild turkeys, peregrines falcons, or even a rare bald eagle.

There are even many natural formations here that are perfect for experimental shots, including Auger Falls and the Chimney Mountain caves. Boating, paddling, and rock climbing are all allowed within the park, giving you many different ways to look for the best angle for each image.

  • Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center - 5239 Lake Shore Drive, Bolton Landing, NY 12814
Not all nature photographs need to be taken on rugged terrain. The Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center provides a neat and well-maintained space for aspiring shutterbugs to take pictures of natural wonders.

With 3 miles of trails to explore as well as a pond, a butterfly garden, and even a set of beehives, you'll have no trouble finding interesting subjects at this location. Be sure to ask the staff at the center if they have any suggestions for getting great shots—they may be able to give some tips on how to get the wildlife to come closer.
