Mountain Day - Adirondack Region - CB Prime Properties

Mountain Day is observed on August 11 and has its origins in Japan. Why not celebrate it in the U.S. by getting out into nature?

Our real estate agents suggest the following five places to celebrate Mountain Day in the Adirondack Region.

  1. Panther Mountain Trailhead - off Route 8 at Old Piseco Rd., Piseco, NY 12139
Hiking to the summit of Panther Mountain takes a relatively short amount of time and pays off with beautiful views of Piseco Lake as well as some smaller surrounding ones. The trailhead is located near Piseco homes for sale, and it takes the average hiker about 45 minutes to make the trip, which is considered a good one to take with the whole family. The route is moderately challenging since it gets steep toward the peak.

  2. Buck Mountain Hiking Trail - off Ridge Road, Lake George, NY 12827
    Buck Mountain Hiking Trail
, located near Lake George homes for sale, has two different approaches, both of which offer beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The more popular trail starts from Pilots Knob Road and travels about 6.6 miles out and back. The hike starts through the forest before you rock-hop across a stream and work your way to the summit. The other trail starts from Shelving Rock Road and is a shorter way to the summit, covering about five miles roundtrip. You won't have any great views on this shorter trail until you reach the summit.

  3. Spruce Mountain Trail - Spruce Mountain Road, Corinth, NY 12859
    Spruce Mountain Trail
, near Corinth homes for sale, takes you on a moderate to difficult hike through old growth and recovering forests. At the summit, you'll find a historic fire tower that's 73 feet tall. The tower is open and offers spectacular 360-degree views of the southern Adirondacks, the Hudson River, the Green Mountains in Vermont, and southern Saratoga County.

  4. Prospect Mountain - 75 Smith St., Lake George, NY 12845
The hike up Prospect Mountain takes you to a 2,030-foot summit and is classified as moderate to difficult. The trail is well marked and is about four miles long. Along the way, you'll cross an enclosed bridge that takes you over the Adirondack Northway. At the summit, you'll enjoy panoramic views of Lake George and the Adirondack region. Stop for a picnic on the tables if you'd like to take a break before heading down the mountain.

  5. Swede Mountain Fire Tower - State Route 8, Hague, NY 12836
    The Swede Mountain Fire Tower
hike is an easy 1.8-mile roundtrip journey. You'll start near Hague homes for sale by crossing a stream and steep embankment and climb gradually to the summit, with an elevation gain of only 238 feet. A 47-foot-tall fire tower at the summit gives you 360-degree views of Fore Mountain, Crane Mountain, and Brant Lake.
