Located within Onondaga County is the village of Baldwinsville. At the 2000 census the population was 7,053. Baldwinsville is located within the Towns of Lysander and Van Buren, and is a part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The town is named after Dr. Baldwin and his wife, who visited the area in 1798 and came back to settle and help the community flourish in 1808.
In order to generate energy and keep a clandestine canal, Dr. Baldwin built a dam across the Seneca River to keep the veracity of the water highway. Baldwinsville was incorporated as a village in 1848.
