Cicero Real Estate Listings and Information

Cicero is a town in Onondaga County, New York. At the 2000 census the population was 27,982. Honoring the name of a Roman statesman, the town of Cicero was assigned its name by a clerk interested in the classics.

The town is in the central part of New York, in the northeast part of Onondaga County, and is a northern suburb of Syracuse. Cicero was one of the townships that reserved land for soldiers of the American Revolution, a part of the former Central New York Military Tract.

The Town of Cicero was first formed in 1790. However, it was part of Lysander when Onondaga County was formed in 1794 and was separated from Lysander in 1807.

John Leach, who established a tavern at Cody's Corners, was the first known settler to disembark. Cicero was basically split in half in the year 1827, and the other portion became the Town of Clay.

Cicero is currently undergoing a revitalization of retail stores, with old debilitated properties being repurposed into new retail plazas.
