Van Buren is a town in Onondaga County, New York. At the 2000 census the population was 12,667. The town of Van Buren was named after President Martin van Buren, who was the governor of the state of NY.
The town lies in the northwest corner of Syracuse.
The northeast section south of the Seneca River is made up of suburban neighborhoods, small apartment buildings and some small industrial entities. The remainder of the town, southwest of NY-690, is mostly rural land.
