Preparing Kids To Move

Moving is a life changing event for everyone and can be tough especially so for kids. They usually don't feel they were part of this big decision to begin with. Some tips to prepare your children for the move. 1. Let your children know it is okay to ask questions and that you will provide them with honest answers. They will probably want to know about the neighborhood, new school, sport teams, etc. Why are we moving? Can we take our pets? I know my grandchildren wanted to know if they were taking their furniture and beds! 2. Share with them as much information as you can regarding the house and their room. Planning what color to paint and where to place furniture keeps them involved. 3. Encourage  your children to create an address book for friends, teachers, coaches, etc. so that they can stay in touch. 4. Help plan your children's goodbyes. Some may want a party or just a get together with a few at a time. This is an important step in the moving process. 5. Have them sort out their things. Create a list of tasks to do. Ask them to donate or add to the garage sale unused toys or clothes they no longer need or have outgrown. 6.Have them make a special box just for  moving day essentials. Moving Survival kit. From things for fun to things they need. 7. Make sure to save time to say goodbye to favorite places too! Make a list and a calendar to visit the places they will miss! Favorite park, musuem, ice cream stand, whatever! Saying Goodbye helps to Say Hello to the new places!
