Fire Safety. The importance of understanding your home and what you can do to prevent fires cannot be emphasized enough.
SPEAKING TO THE EXPERTS. In communications with Fire Department personnel and insurance underwriters and licensed electricians it was clearly communicated that older wiring can be dangerous. An insurance underwriter at one insurance company communicated to me that active Knob & Tube wiring (e.g. the type of wiring installed in the 1920's) is something they have cancelled insurance policies for. A Fire Inspector suggested that old cloth-wrapped wiring should be removed, especially when you are renovating areas of your home. Also, it was pointed out that you should upgrade old electrical FUSE boxes to newer circuit-breaker boxes. A home inspector also recently pointed out that worn looking, frayed service lines on the outside connected to your home should be replaced. "Electrical wiring done incorrectly can be dangerous" said a licensed electrician I spoke to.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS CONTACT A LICENSED LOCAL GOVERNMENT APPROVED ELECTRICIAN TO INSPECT YOUR HOME'S WIRING. MAKE SURE YOUR HOME IS UP TO THE SAFETY CODES ESTABLISHED BY YOUR CITY, TOWN OR VILLAGE.
Its my wish for you that you live long and enjoy life to its fullest. And, as always . . .
