One of the most common questions I receive when interviewing first-time home-buyers is, "I have car payments, credit card bills, and a college loan, and few thousand saved for down-payment, will I be able to get a mortgage?"  I'm not a mortgage broker so I first refer them to one of our local lenders to check their credit. If credit is an issue, we assure them they may not be in a position to buy today, however, with some direction and discipline they could qualify in as little as two or three months. We also have several lenders who have first-time homebuyer incentives...it pays to check that out.  Wallet lacking? Let a professional help.
