Scotia Real Estate Listings and Information

Scotia is a small village in Schenectady County, and is connected to the city of Schenectady by the Western Gateway Bridge crossing the Mohawk River.

Established in 1904, the village is partially in the Town of Glenville.

The land that is now the village of Scotia was purchased from the Mohawk by Scotland Native Alexander Lindsay Glen in the 17th century. Glen chose to name the village Scotia, as it’s the Latin term for Scotland, his homeland. During the French and Indian War of 1754 and the War of 1812 the village served as the location for a military encampment. Scotia is known for its history of the creation of brooms, and production of over one million brooms annually during the 1800s. Within the small village of Scotia lies much history. Historic buildings include The Glen Sanders Mansion (1713).
